After World War II, social scientists wanted to know how to prevent hatred like Nazism. Psychologist Gordon Allport proposed contact theory: simply being around different people makes us more tolerant.
Research shows this works for religion too. Christians who know Jewish people, or Muslims who know Christians, tend to become more accepting. Being around people of different faiths encourages understanding and reduces prejudice.
