At 113, this nun’s secret to life is simple: ‘My whole mind is on God’

04/30/2026

Recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living nun, Sister Francis Domenici Piscatella marks her 113th birthday this month with the same humility that has defined her life. Born on April 20, 1913, she entered religious life at just 17, joining the Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville in 1931.

For nearly a century—94 years to be exact—the Long Island native has devoted herself to serving the Church, primarily as an educator. While she once simply hoped “to be someone important to the sisters,” those around her say her influence has reached far beyond that, shaping the lives of countless students and fellow believers.

Her secret to a long life?
It’s simple. “My whole mind is on God. He has kept me going all these years,” she shared.

Now past 113, she doesn’t dwell on the number. Instead, she reflects on purpose. “God gives us a certain amount of years to live, and we try to live out that number of years,” she said. “I’ve given up counting my years.”
